Papier Hier art exhibition
MOAM has collaborated with other disciplines in the past, including classical music (Het Concertbouw), film (EYE), photography (FOAM) and pop music (Paradiso). Therefore, an art exhibition with sustainability, diversity, accessibility, books, and paper as the central focus was only logical. CPNB, KB, Huis van het Boek and Letterenfonds are the co-initiators of the MOAM art exhibition – Paper Hier.
Creative platform MOAM selects a diverse number of artists (multidisciplinary – from painting to fashion design and from 3D art to photography), these artists will be linked to a well-known Dutch author: Abdelkader Benali, Mano Bouzamour, Yvette van Boven, Splinter Chabot, Paulien Cornelisse, Adriaan van Dis, Anna Enquist, Mylo Freeman, Tim Hofman, Herman Koch, Carry Slee, Thomas Olde Heuvelt, Paul van Loon, Heleen van Royen, Barbara Stok and Esther Verhoef.
At the sustainable exhibition Paper Hier the connection between art and books is the central point of focus. MOAM, together with its partners Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB), Nederlands Letterenfonds (Dutch Foundation for Literature), Stichting Collectieve Propaganda voor het Nederlandse Boek (CPNB) and Huis van het Boek (House of the Book), has made a selection of sixteen leading Dutch writers. The selection consists of a palette of iconic authors in all genres: from children’s books to literary novels or poetry, and from cookbooks to comic books and thrillers. The selection of young artists – all graduates of Dutch academies – is also a mix of disciplines; from fashion design to animation, from photography to 3D installation art and from interior design to illustration.
Each duo discusses the author’s oeuvre, his or her favourite books, Dutch literature and books in general. This conversation serves as a source of inspiration for the work, which they create with recycled paper, with complete artistic freedom. By researching materials and experimenting with paper, the participating artists discovered new methods and techniques, in which sustainability plays an important role. Knowledge expansion and talent development are also for this project the main goals.
In January 2021 the Papier Hier project starts with a period of artists in residence in the KB, the Royal Library in the Hague. Five artists will be working from the KB and will have meetings with the collection experts of the KB to learn more about Dutch literature, paper and the authors.
In February the exhibition will be opened at OBA Oosterdok. At the beginning of January, the final date will be announced. In March the artworks will be on display in OBA Oosterdok, de Hallen and Javaplein. After the opening and exposition in Amsterdam, the artworks will be divided over several libraries throughout the Netherlands. The selected libraries are located in either the city of residence, place of study or birthplace of the participating artists. The exhibition will have its closing month in May at the Hague. Here, the art will be showcased in the KB, het Huis van het Boek and the OB Den Haag. During the whole exhibition period, there will be activities as part of the peripheral program, such as educative workshops, panel discussions, reading sessions and exclusive tours with the artist and writers.
